THE FRIENDS OF THE CEDAR KEY AIRPORT

2018 Announcement

Friends of KCDK has been the passion project of Walter and Marina for over 7 years. Even though have both moved away from island, they still engage and keep things running for the benefit of the airfield. However with that circumstance we are actively seeking new leadership for our association. If you are interest or know someone who would like to continue with an incredible community of aviators, please contact us at: [email protected]
ABOUT US
This website is run by The Friends of the Cedar Key Airport, an unincorporated association with a love and appreciation for the George T. Lewis Airport (KCDK) in Cedar Key, FL. Founded in March 2011 in response to discussions about closing the airfield, its members advocated not only for it to remain open to the public but increase its operational safety and integrity. This was achieved by conducting surveys of visiting pilots over several years which resulted in fencing, resurfacing, new runway lighting, and more. Donations by members of the Friends of the Cedar Key Airport funded a port-a-potty on the field for a year which was later taken on by the county. Today the association continues visitor surveying, provides operational tips and support for the airport, and actively acts as a liaison between aviators, locals, the City of Cedar Key, & Levy County.
OUR CHARTER
We are a group who are interested in:
  • Keeping the Cedar Key Airport open,
  • Helping its safety & economic benefits to Cedar Key and Levy County
  • Helping its operational safety.
